PG-CORK Granule
the world's first patented material

What is PG-CORK Granule

PG-CORK Granule is a product that is an uniquely surface-treated cork chip using SORKIE’s patented technology to make cork suitable as a building material.

Cork granule processed in this way is most ideal for use as a building material because of enhanced workability and durability. Raw cork granule is not feasible for use on the jobsite as a building material especially for outdoor flooring.

SORKIE's PG-CORK Granule Development

High quality PG-CORK Granule has overcome the limits of natural cork for use as a building material. It offers a new way of producing various cork building materials while fully retaining the versatile and functional properties of cork.

In addition to its use as a building material, independent artists or DIY enthusiasts can easily create sculptures of artistic value or eco-friendly furnishings and small household items.

How to use

PG-CORK Granule is used by mixing with PU-based binders.

•  Mix a 10:1 ratio of PG-CORK granule and PG-PU binder

    - 10Liter Cork : 1kg Binder

    - Mixing to the exact proportion is essential for a successful surfacing work

•  Put the PG-CORK granule into the mixing container first and pour the PG-PU binder

•  Mix well for 2-3 minutes until the material has no dry PG-CORK granules or clump (the mixture            should be consistent in its texture)

•  Use the mixture within 30 minutes

•  MSDS ID #: 30551133/SDS-GEN-00/EN):

Description:

PG-PU Binder for PG-CORK Granule is a special eco-friendly polyurethane binder which includes more than 97%  of solid contents.

It is a solvent-free binder that removes heavy metals and harmful solvents that exist in general polyurethane binder and doesn’t contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC), PAHs, T-VOCs, and heavy metals as well. It has better adhesive strength than general binders.

PG-PU Binder is a best product which has maximized natural material’s strength and improved durability by studying the world leading chemical company.

Eco-friendly, non-toxic binder

• Appearance: Transparent viscous liquid

• Solid contents (%): 98.5-99.9

• Density: 1.05 ± 0.1

• Viscosity (cps/25°C): 2,000-8,000

• Curing time: Summer 12H/Winter 24H

• Smell: Odorless(Similar with vegetable oil)

• Strength: 50% improved than the existing binder

Test result of heavymetal detection

• Heavy metal (Pb,Cd,HG,Cr6+)

• T-VOCs(Benzene)

• T-VOCs(Toluene)

• T-VOCs(Ethylbenzene)

• T-VOCs(Xylene)

• PAHs(Total amount)

• PAHs (Benzo[a]pyrene)

Advantages

• Excellent heat resistance and weather resistance

• Little change in physical properties within low & high temperature

• Excellent adhesive strength and high elasticity

• Does not contain organic solvent to protect worker’s health and eliminate environmental hazards

• Excellent storage stability

• It is possible work in 5-40C of outside temperature and 40-70% of relative humidity, and the final         physical properties are manifested to about 8-11 hours after installation

• Since its solid content is more than 97%, it is more efficient than other companies’ binder which has     a solid content of 93%

• It has a long life span by improving UV protective function

Installation Process

The installation method and sequence of PG-CORK granule is almost the same as that of EPDM rubber granule. PG-CORK Granule is lighter than SBR or EPDM granule, so workability is better (approx. 1/5 of the weight of EPDM rubber granule).

STEP 1:  Preparation

STEP 2:
Application of Primer

STEP 3:  Mixing

STEP 4:
Application of Cork

STEP 5:  Curing

Clean the surface.

Remove all debris and dry the surface completely.

Make a primer by mixing PG-PU Binder and pure acetone in a ratio of 1:2.

First, apply this mixture (primer) to all edges of border using brush.

Apply the primer to the rest of cleaned surface with a paint roller.

Mix a 10:1 ratio of PG-CORK granule and PG-PU binder.

It is very important to use the proper ratio of PG-CORK granule and Binder.

Pour PG-CORK granules mixed with binder on the primed floor.

Spread out wide and flatten them with a push stick.

Use a roller or trowel to achieve the designed thickness and level.

* It is recommended to use a roller with a heavier weight than the roller for rubber.

Allow 24 to 48 hrs for curing, depending on the weather after the work is completed.
